Global technology investment is accelerating at its fastest pace since the pandemic, with spending projected to grow 7.8% to $5.6 trillion in 2026. Nation-states are driving this expansion through competitive AI infrastructure builds, particularly in semiconductors and data centers. Hyperscalers like Google and Chinese tech giants account for the majority of recent growth.

Two-thirds of new expenditures will target foundational AI technologies—a trend benefiting crypto projects like FET (AI infrastructure), RNDR (GPU compute), and FIL (decentralized storage). Exchange platforms including Binance and Coinbase are listing AI-related tokens as institutional demand grows.

The IMF notes this spending may counteract macroeconomic headwinds from trade disputes. Crypto markets are responding: AI-linked tokens FET and AGI outperformed BTC by 300% last quarter, while exchange-traded products like BITB see record inflows.
